Center Valley, PA (April 12, 2010) – The DeSales University baseball team led 4-2 thru six innings but one run in the seventh and three more in the eighth propelled visiting Rutgers-Camden to a 6-5 come-from-behind win in a non-conference game on Monday afternoon at Butz Field.
The Bulldogs (15-11 overall) left 10 men on-base, including eight over the first five innings and that came back to haunt them as the Scarlet Raptors (11-11) took advantage with four runs over the final three innings to earn the road win.
Senior Joe Walsh (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) took the loss allowing two runs over 1.2 innings of relief. Junior Jeffrey Pinto (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) was a bright spot out of the bullpen tossing 3.2 innings allowing just one hit and one run and striking out one.
Junior Andrew Feher (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) had an RBI double plating one run in the second inning, had an RBI ground out plating sophomore Jack Kavetski (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) in the fourth inning, and junior Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) and junior Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/The Perkiomen School) had RBIs in the two-run fifth inning.
Slonaker also doubled and scored in the eighth cutting the lead to one run as the Bulldogs left two men on-base in the eighth. Kavestki had two hits and two runs scored as the only player with multiple hits for DeSales. Feher had three RBIs.
DeSales returns to action tomorrow night when they host local rival Moravian College, under the lights at Limeport Stadium, beginning at 7:00 pm. The game is scheduled to be televised live locally by Service Electric's TV-2 Sports Crew. For those unable to attend you can also follow along via LIVE Stats.
