Bulldogs Stay Unbeaten in Freedom Conference with 11-3 Win over King’s

Sophomore Nick Chiovitti had three hits and scored twice in the win over King's on Thursday.

Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 1, 2010) – Senior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and the DeSales University baseball team ran its perfect conference record to 7-0 on Thursday afternoon with an 11-3 win over King's College on the road to take the first game of the three-game series with the Monarchs over Easter Weekend.

The Bulldogs improve to 11-5 overall and 7-0 in the Freedom, while King's falls to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the Freedom with the loss. DSU wasted no time once again taking control of the game, scoring three times in the first inning. The Bulldogs tacked on another run in the fourth and blew the game open with three in the sixth and two more in the seventh to lead 9-1.

Several Bulldogs contributed in the win including Moyer with his four hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Sophomore Nick Chiovitti (Thomaston, CT/Holy Cross) continued to get the job done at the lead-off spot in the order with three hits and two more runs scored. Senior Andrew Feher (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three walks and junior Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/The Perkiomen School) had two hits and a run scored.

Junior Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) scored twice and freshman Chris Zucchi (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) was swinging a hot bat with three hits, including two doubles, and two runs scored out of the nine-hole in the order.

Freshman David Drinks (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) improved to 4-0 on the year with another solid seven innings, allowing just five hits and one run to go along with three strikeouts.

DeSales returns to action on Saturday, April 3rd when they travel down to Washington DC to take on Catholic University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
