Bulldogs Win Fourth Straight, 16-4, over Swarthmore

Freshman Derek Chrismer hit his first career home run on Tuesday vs. Swarthmore.

Center Valley, PA (April 20, 2010) – All nine starters had at least two hits and the DeSales University baseball team banged out 23 total hits as the Bulldogs tallied their fourth straight win, 16-4, over Swarthmore College in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at Butz Field.

The Bulldogs (19-12 overall) jumped out early scoring 11 runs over the first three innings and never looked back from there. Senior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) and sophomore Jack Kavetski (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) each had RBI hits in the first and second innings, junior Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/The Perkiomen School) had an RBI double, his 16th two-bagger of the year, in the second inning and freshman Derek Chrismer (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) hit his first career home run, a two-run shot, as part of the five-run second inning.

Senior Mark Reilly (Cream Ridge, NJ/Notre Dame) earned the win, his second of the season, pitching five solid innings allowing just four hits and one run, while striking out four. Reilly lowered his season ERA to 2.25 on the year.

Among the Bulldogs with two or more hits were sophomore Kenny Ridge (Allentown, PA/Steinert) with two hits and two runs scored, junior Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) with two hits, including a triple, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Kavetski finished with a game-high four hits, scored three times, and knocked in two runs and Moyer had two hits and two RBIs.

Slonaker finished with two hits and is now just five doubles shy of tying the single-season record, sophomore Jason Hadinger (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) had two hits, senior Andrew Feher (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) had three hits and scored twice, Chrismer finished with two hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs, and freshman Chris Zucchi (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

The Bulldogs will look to make it five in a row and win 20+ games for the 11th straight season and the 17th time in the last 18 years tomorrow when they host Ursinus College in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
