BOX SCORE
Center Valley, PA (April 21, 2010) – Sophomore Jason Hadinger (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) hit a three-run home run, erasing a one-run deficit in the fifth inning and the DeSales University baseball team cruised from there winning its fifth straight game and recording its 11th straight 20-win season with an 8-4 win over Ursinus College on Wednesday afternoon.
DSU (20-12 overall) took a 3-1 lead in the second inning on a two-RBI double from freshman Chris Zucchi (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and an RBI single from junior Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) but the Bears scored once in the third and twice more in the fourth to lead, 4-3, thru 4 ½ innings.
With runners on second and third and two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Hadinger blasted a ball that cleared the 365 mark on the right-centerfield fence to give DSU a 6-4 lead it did not relinquish as the bullpen allowed just two hits and struck out six over the final 4.1 innings pitched.
Junior Alex Brown (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) earned his first win of the season pitching 2.1 perfect innings, striking out two. Hadinger finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs, while sophomore Jack Kavetski (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) also had two hits and scored twice.
DSU gets back to action on Friday when they start an important three-game weekend series with Manhattanville College at Butz Field beginning at 3:30 pm. LIVE Stats will once again be available for those that cannot attend the game.
