Sluggish Second Half Spoils Bulldogs in 15-6 Loss at Lycoming

Senior Kevin Walker dominated the face-off circle on Wednesday winning 18-of-24 face-offs and picking up 16 ground balls.

BOX SCORE

Williamsport, PA (April 21, 2010) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team found itself down just one goal at the half but two lightning delays and some sluggish play in the second half was too much to overcome as the Bulldogs fell at Lycoming College, 15-6, in an MAC Conference game on Wednesday afternoon.

DSU (4-9, 3-5 MAC) was down 5-4 at the break, but fell behind 8-5 with just over three minutes left in the third period when the first lightning delay came as the two teams were forced to sit around for over 30 minutes as a storm passed over head. The two teams returned to action and it was all Lycoming (8-5, 6-2 MAC) after that as they built an insurmountable lead before a second lightning delay with just about three minutes left in the game hit the Williamsport area before the game was able to finish under non-threatening skies.

DeSales did out-ground ball Lycoming, 43-36, and won 18-of-24 face-offs in the game but nine failed clears and too many turnovers did the Bulldogs in as the Warriors out-shot DSU, 43-20, and only had four failed clears in the game.

Sophomore Michael Bassani (Califon, NY/Voorhees) led the scoring attack with three goals, while seniors Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) and junior Donald Clemens (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) each added one goal. Senior Matthew Kruszewski (Atco, NJ/Winslow Township) had two assists and junior Whit Bruemmer (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) had one assist to round out the scoring.

Walker was dominant in the face-off circle winning 18-of-24 face-offs and picking up 16 ground balls, while junior Justin Campanelli (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) had a strong first half and finished with 11 saves in goal.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they take to the road once again traveling to Misericordia University for another MAC Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
