BOX SCORE

Madison, NJ (April 30, 2010) – The DeSales University baseball team surrendered 11 runs in the second inning, dropping the first game of a three-game set with FDU-Florham, 20-5, on Friday afternoon in a series that will determine the #1 and #2 seeds for the Freedom Conference playoffs next week.

The Bulldogs are now 22-15 overall and 15-4 in the Freedom, while the Devils improve to 28-6 overall as well as 15-4 in the Freedom Conference. DeSales must now sweep the doubleheader at home tomorrow to earn the #1 seed in next week's Freedom Conference playoffs, while the Devils need just one of the games tomorrow afternoon at Butz Field to earn that #1 seed.

FDU jumped on top, 4-0, in the bottom of the first inning when Greg Geran hit a grand slam after two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases. DeSales got three of the runs back in the top of the second inning on a two-run home run from sophomore Jason Hadinger (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic). The Bulldogs loaded the bases after the Hadinger homer with one out but were only able to get one more run out of it on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Jack Kavetski (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh).

The Devils then exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning to essentially put the game away as Geran hit his second grand slam in as many innings.

Junior Stefano Curto (Coopersburg, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) took the loss lasting just 1.1 innings allowing seven runs on four hits and four walks.

Junior Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/The Perkiomen School) had a nice day at the plate with three hits to lead the 15-hit offensive attack. Kavetski had two hits as 12 different Bulldogs had a hit in the loss. Freshman Carlos Guerrero (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) was a bright spot pitching four innings allowing just three hits and one run, while striking out three in relief.

The Bulldogs will look to sweep tomorrow's doubleheader at Butz Field with these same Devils to earn that coveted #1 seed. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00 pm. Live stats will be available for those unable to attend.
