St. David's, PA (April 6, 2010) – Trailing by just one goal at the half (5-4) the DeSales University men's lacrosse team was out-scored 5-2 in the second half, falling, 10-6, at Eastern University in a MAC Conference game on Tuesday afternoon in St. David's, PA.
The Bulldogs were within two goals (8-6) 45 seconds in the fourth quarter when senior Patrick McManimon (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) scored unassisted but the Eagles scored with 5:38 left to regain its three-goal lead and added an insurance tally just over two minutes later to provide the final score.
Eastern (5-3, 3-1 MAC) held a slight 31-29 edge in shots and a 41-37 advantage in ground balls, while the Bulldogs (3-6, 2-2 MAC) again controlled the face-off circle, winning 13-of-20 face-offs. Junior Justin Campanelli (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) had another strong game with 12 saves in goal.
Junior Whit Bruemmer (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) led the way with two goals and one assist. Senior Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) added one goal and one assist, picked up 15 ground balls, and won 13-of-19 face-offs in the loss. McManimon, sophomore Michael Bassani (Califon, NY/Voorhees), and freshman Billy Marsh (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) rounded out the scoring with one goal each and senior Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) picked up five ground balls.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they host Widener University in another MAC Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
