Women’s Soccer Suffers Second Straight Defeat, 2-0 at Gwynedd-Mercy

Gwynedd-Valley, PA (September 11, 2010) – The DeSales University women's soccer team suffered its second straight shutout defeat falling to host Gwynedd-Mercy College on the second day of the Gwynedd-Mercy College Tournament over the weekend.

The Bulldogs fall to 4-1 overall with the loss, while the Griffins improve to 2-2-1 overall. Both teams has 11 shots in the game and GMC owned a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Gwynedd-Mercy got on the board at the 13:30 mark when Kasey Reid scored off assists from Melissa Maguire and Maria Bailey and scored the back breaking goal just 1:57 before the halftime break to take a two-goal lead when Christine Michalski volleyed home a centering pass from Kirstyn Varas.

Junior Melissa Millili (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) made seven saves in the loss. Seniors Jena Meaney (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph Hill Academy) and Amanda Ziegler (Aston, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) were each named to the All-Tournament team for their strong play in the two games over the weekend.

The Bulldogs now get a few days off and won't return to action until next Saturday the 18th when they host Drew University in a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
