BOX SCORE
Center Valley, PA (September 25, 2010) – The DeSales University field hockey team suffered a heart-breaking Freedom Conference season opening loss to Delaware Valley College on another gorgeous Saturday afternoon, 1-0 in overtime, on homecoming weekend at DeSales.
In a very evenly played matched that saw neither team able to push one across in regulation the Aggies (7-3, 1-0 Freedom) were able to find the back of the cage on a shot from
Mindy Miniconzi on the rebound of a saved shot seconds earlier, handing DSU a tough overtime home loss.
The Bulldogs (4-4, 0-1 Freedom) had the first scoring chance in overtime when senior
Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsvile, PA/Boyertown) took a spinning shot in front of the goalie early in the overtime but the shot went wide and Delaware Valley countered and was able to come up with the game-winner. DVC enjoyed a 10-7 advantage on shots and a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners in the loss.
Sophomore
Victoria DelToro (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) made five saves in between the pipes.
DSU returns to action on Wednesday, September 29th when they travel to Arcadia University for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
