Center Valley, PA (November 18, 2011) – A close game with 2:02 left in the first half was completely blown open by DeSales as the Bulldogs used a 34-0 run over the next 8:09 to take a 36-point lead and never looked back in an 89-39 win over Wesley College on the first day of the Starter's Pub Tip-off Tournament on Friday night in Billera Hall.

Sophomore Sondrine Glovas led the Bulldogs (1-0 overall) with a game-high 22 points as the only player in double digits for both teams.  DSU shot a blistering 58.8 percent from the field in the second half and 45.5 percent for the game, while forcing 39 Wolverine (0-2 overall) turnovers and out-rebounding Wesley, 51-37.

Wesley was led by Jazmine Miller with eight points and eight rebounds and Aleisha Hobbs also with eight points.

DSU led 16-9 early before Wesley scored nine straight points to take an 18-16 lead as DeSales struggled to find the shooting touch in its first game of the season.  It was back-and-forth over the next five minutes as the Wolverines trailed by just two points (25-23) with 2:02 left in the first half before the Bulldogs scored the final 10 points of the half to lead 35-23 at the break.

Glovas and fellow sophomore Faith Gilbert each had five points in that 10-0 half-ending run.

In the second half it was all DeSales as the Bulldogs scored the first 24 points and after a lay-up from freshman Alex Suk dropped at the 13:53 mark, the lead had swelled to 36 points, 59-23.  The lead peaked at 52 points twice, before a Hobbs jumper from Wesley provided the final margin.

In addition to Glovas, DSU had a balanced scoring attack with junior Colleen Gavin tossing in nine points, Suk tallying eight points, and junior Taylor Greene, Gilbert, sophomore Alexiah Grant, and sophomore Megan Gallagher all totaling seven points in the win.  DeSales saw 13 of the 15 players in the game record a point and 14 of the 15 pull down a rebound.

As a team, DeSales totaled 30 assists on 35 made baskets and had 26 steals, including seven by Glovas and five by Suk.  Greene also added a game-high seven assists and Suk led the charge with nine rebounds off the bench.

In the other opening night game of the Starter's Pub Tip-off tournament, Juniata defeated Widener University, 68-63.  Ashton Bankos led the way with 22 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while Jordan Hileman (14 points), Jordan Speck (11 points), and Natalie Glinsky (10 points) also reached double figures.  Widener got 16 points from Lil Carney and 12 from Kate Dellinger but shot just 27.3 percent from the field as a team in the loss.

DeSales will take on Juniata in the tournament championship game on Saturday beginning at 3:00 pm, while Widener will face Wesley in the consolation game beginning at 1:00 pm.
