Madison, NJ (November 30, 2011) – Sophomore Sondrine Glovas and junior Colleen Gavin each recorded double-doubles and senior Cherelle Simmons also grabbed double digit rebounds as the DeSales University women's basketball team used a 61-31 advantage on the glass en route to a 60-46 win over FDU-Florham in the Freedom Conference season opener.

Glovas finished with a game-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, Gavin totaled 17 points and also pulled down 12 boards, and Simmons added eight points and 11 boards.  Junior Taylor Greene also played well dishing out six assists and handling the point guard duties.  She was able to play the majority of the last 11 minutes with four fouls, without fouling out.

FDU (3-4, 0-1 Freedom) got 16 points from Tasza Carter but on 6-of-20 shooting and 14 points from Kyra Dayon as the only two players in double digits for the Devils.

DSU (2-2, 1-0 Freedom) dominated the first 15 minutes of the game and led 25-10 on two Glovas free throws with 4:48 left in the opening half before FDU made a run, forcing 10 Bulldog turnovers over the final 4:48, leading to several uncontested lay-ups and a 13-0 half-ending run with DeSales clinging to a 25-23 halftime lead.

It was all DeSales in the second-half using a 14-3 run out of the locker room to take a 13-point lead after back-to-back three's from Glovas and fellow sophomore Faith Gilbert.  The Devils chipped away and did pull within five (41-36) at the 11:42 mark but the Bulldog defense took over, holding FDU to just one point over the next six and a half minutes, building a 47-37 lead in the process and cruised the rest of the way.

DeSales had its most satisfying defensive effort of the season holding FDU to just 23.8 percent shooting for the game.  The Bulldogs shot 40.4 percent on their offensive end, but did commit a game-high 30 turnovers, that led to 19 FDU points.  DSU used its 19 offensive rebounds to score 16 second-chance points.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they face Wilkes University in another important early season Freedom Conference battle beginning at 1:00 pm in Billera Hall.
