Lehman, PA (December 10, 2011) – Three players reached double digits including junior
Brett Moyer with 19 points and the DeSales University men's basketball team shot 56.8 percent from the field in a 73-61 win over PSU-Wilkes Barre on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game.
Moyer shot 8-of-12 from the floor for his 19 points and added six rebounds. Freshman
Ryan Griffin had a season-high 16 points and added six assists without a turnover, while sophomore
Mike Coleman finished with 12 points. Sophomore
Paul Pammer totaled nine points and sophomore
Andrew Kohler had seven points off the bench.
PSU-WB (5-6) was led by
Frank Peters with 14 points and
Jacob Bonder with 10 points in the loss. The Nittany Lions also shot well, converting 56.3 percent from the field.
DSU broke a tie at 11 with five straight points including a three from Griffin to lead 16-11 before PSU-WB scored six straight to take its only lead of the game, 17-16, at the 12:03 mark. DSU led by one (29-28) with 3:10 left in the half before scoring six straight points to lead 35-28 before the Nittany Lions hit a jumper with 19 ticks left to provide the halftime score.
In the second half, DeSales jumped ahead by 13 points (51-38) with an 8-2 run early in the half that included three's from both Pammer and Zanneo. A three from freshman
Jake Hungarter pushed the advantage up to 14 points at the 13:59 mark, but PSU slowly chipped away, pulling within five points (58-53) at the 7:48 mark.
From there it was all Bulldogs (3-5) scoring nine straight points including six from Moyer and another triple from Griffin to regain their 14-point lead (67-53) with 5:08 left. The Nittany Lions never got any closer than the 12-point final score over the final five minutes.
In addition to its hot shooting, DeSales held a 26-17 edge on the glass and took good care of the ball with just 13 turnovers as compared to 15 assists on the offensive end.
DeSales gets a week off this week for finals before returning to action on Tuesday evening when they return home to host Kean University in a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
