Center Valley, PA (December 7, 2011) – The DeSales University women's basketball team got key performances from nearly everyone who stepped on the floor, holding off a furious Kean University rally in the second-half and taking control in overtime to earn an 85-78 win over the Cougars in non-conference action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

Sophomore Sondrine Glovas finished with a game-high 25 points, including four three-pointers, fellow sophomore Faith Gilbert tied her career-high with 15 points, and senior Cherelle Simmons notched her second-straight double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four steals and three blocked shots to lead the Bulldogs (4-3).

Junior Taylor Greene was once again solid at the point, dishing out a career-high 12 assists and scoring seven points, junior Colleen Gavin finished with nine points and grabbed five boards, and sophomore Megan Gallagher her a very nice game off the bench with seven points and nine rebounds.

Brittany Powell and Naimah Clemons each finished with 24 points leading Kean (6-2) and Noel Mathis totaled 10 points.  Danielle McFadden led the charge on the glass with 12 rebounds.

Kean stormed out of the gates opening up a 21-13 lead with 10:02 left before an 11-0 Bulldog run, led by six points from Glovas, gave DSU a 24-21 advantage with 7:26 remaining in the opening half.  When DSU took a 22-21 lead on a three from Glovas that marked the last time Kean held the lead the rest of the way.

DeSales advantage swelled to as many as seven points in the first-half before DSU settled for a three-point edge, 36-33, at the break.

The Bulldogs were the aggressor early in the second-half opening up a 12-point lead on two different occasions including for the final time at 56-44 with 10:01 left.  DSU continued to lead by eight (68-60) with 3:54 to go before the Cougars made a run.

Four straight points cut the lead down to four with 1:52 to go before one free throw from Greene pushed the lead back to five.  Clemons hit her only three of the game on the next possession and after a Bulldog turnover Clemons made good on two free throws with 23 seconds left.

After a DSU timeout, Simmons aggressively took the ball to the hole on the right side of the lane and scored, giving DSU a 71-69 lead, but Mathis wasted no time racing down the court and hitting a running one-hander with three seconds left to tie the game and ultimately send it into overtime.

In the overtime period, Glovas broke a tie game with a three with 2:39 left and Gilbert answered a Mathis three two possessions later with a triple of her own with 1:08 to go and Glovas knocked four free throws over the final 39 seconds to seal the win for the Bulldogs.

DSU shot 39.4 percent for the game and 44.4 percent (8-for-18) from three-point land.  Despite turning the ball over 25 times, the Bulldogs did an excellent job sharing the ball, registering 20 assists, while Kean turned the ball over 29 times and had just 11 assists.

The Bulldogs return to action for their third game on the week on Saturday when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College for a non-conference game beginning at 2:00 pm.
