San Antonio, TX (March 10, 2011) – After winning each of its first three games on its spring trip out in San Antonio, TX, the DeSales University baseball dropped its third straight game on Thursday, including two at 10th ranked Trinity University, to even its record to 3-3 overall with two games left on Saturday afternoon.
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs dropped their first game, 6-2, at Texas Lutheran University before falling 12-4 and 8-4 to Trinity on Wednesday and Thursday.
Texas Lutheran – 6, DeSales – 2
The TLU Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and DSU was never able to catch up, managing just three hits in its first defeat of the season. Junior
Jason Hadinger had the lone RBI in the loss. Junior
Jack Kavetski took the loss, making his first start of the season, allowing three earned runs over 3.1 innings pitched, striking out one. The DSU bullpen did a nice job, allowing just three hits over the final 4.2 innings pitched, striking out four.
Trinity – 12, DeSales – 4
In the first of two games 10th ranked Trinity University, TU scored in each of the first six innings opening up a 10-1 lead after five frames and never looked back from there. Five different Bulldogs had hits including sophomore
Derek Chrismer with a double and two RBIs. Sophomore
Brendan Duffy took the loss, lasting just two innings allowing four earned runs and walking six.
Trinity – 8, DeSales – 4
The Bulldogs battled Trinity in the second game of the two-game set, but a four-run first and three-run second for the home team was too much to overcome as DSU ran out of innings. DeSales out-hit Trinity, 10-7, including two each from junior
Kenny Ridge and senior
Carson Slonaker. Junior
Ethan Moser had two RBIs and Kavetski scored twice in the loss. Sophomore
David Drinks was roughed up for five earned runs over 1.1 innings pitched before sophomore
Dan Gayeski tossed five innings of shutout relief allowing just one hit and striking out four to keep the Bulldogs in the game.
DeSales concludes its trip on Saturday afternoon when they take on Cardinal Stritch University in a non-conference doubleheader at Trinity University.
