Center Valley, PA (March 19, 2011) – After dropping its Freedom Conference opener on Friday afternoon the DeSales University baseball team struck back on Saturday afternoon, taking both ends of a doubleheader with Manhattanville College, to take two of three in the weekend series.

The Bulldogs (6-5, 2-1 Freedom) pitched masterfully in both games allowing just two runs all afternoon, one of which was unearned. The staff combined to walk just three over 14 innings, striking out 11. Manhattanville falls to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in the Freedom with the two losses.

In the day's opener, the Valiants jumped ahead early, scoring once in the top of the first inning on a Bulldog error with two out in the inning, but DeSales took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-RBI single from junior Jason Hadinger after DSU loaded the bases with a walk and two hit batters.

The Bulldogs added a run in the third on another RBI hit from Hadinger and plated two more runs in the sixth on an RBI base hit from sophomore Chris Zucchi, who later scored on a wild pitch.

Sophomore Dan Gayeski earned his first win of the season, going six innings allowing six hits and one unearned run, striking out five and walking two. Senior Doc Neiman scored twice in the win, while Hadinger and Zucchi each had two hits and combined to knock in four runs.

In the second game, the Bulldogs scored twice in the first, twice in the second, and four more times in the third to take an 8-0 lead and never looked back. Sophomore Colby Pacillo allowed five hits and one run over six innings, striking out four and walking just one.

Junior Jack Kavetski finished with three runs scored out of the lead-off hole, Neiman had two hits and an RBI, sophomore Derek Chrismer had two RBIs, and freshman Kyle Kromberg also knocked in two runs as 10 different players had hits in the 12-hit attack.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Neumann University in a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
