BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (March 26, 2011) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team scored four straight goals in the third and fourth periods and then got the game-winner in the second overtime from junior Tony Fabrizio to lift the Bulldogs past Misericordia University, 7-6, in the first MAC Conference game of the season for both teams.

After an early goal by the Cougars (4-2, 0-1 MAC) in the third period gave the visitor's a 5-2 lead, the Bulldogs answered with four straight tallies (1-4, 1-0 MAC) to take a 6-5 lead before MU sent the game into overtime with a tally with 3:31 left in the fourth period. A scoreless overtime saw DSU begin the second OT with an extra man opportunity but DeSales was unable to score.

Following that opportunity however, Fabrizio had the ball on the left side of the field, spun past a Cougar defender and fired a shot over the keeper's right shoulder to give DeSales its first win of the season, 1:48 into the second overtime.

Seven different players scored for DeSales in the win including Fabrizio, sophomore James Guerrier, senior Jon Devine, sophomore Brennan Gmeiner, freshman Evan Burns, sophomore Josh Martin, and freshman Bruce Peditto. Junior Brendan Guerrier, senior Joe Paugh, and Martin also had assists in the win.

B. Guerrier led the way with a team-high nine ground balls, Gmeiner won 11-of-17 face-offs and picked up four ground balls, senior Donald Clemens had five ground balls and Devine led the charge with three caused turnovers. Senior Justin Campanelli continued his strong play in goal, stopping 17 shots and allowing just six goals.

DeSales returns to action on Wednesday, March 30th when they travel to Elizabethtown College for an MAC Conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
