Pacillo Tosses Shutout in Bulldogs Sweep of Schreiner

Sophomore Colby Pacillo walked just one batter in seven innings of work on Monday.

Kerrville, TX (March 7, 2011) – Sophomore Colby Pacillo tossed a seven-hit complete-game shutout in his first career start in game two and the DeSales University baseball team scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning in game one to earn a sweep of the doubleheader at Schreiner University on Monday afternoon.

In the opener junior Travis Hughes earned the win on the hill, tossing two shutout innings in relief allowing just one hit and striking out two as the Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the seventh after trailing 5-4 to earn the 6-5 win.

Junior Jack Kavetski, junior Jason Hadinger, sophomore Brian Mauro, and senior Doc Neiman each had two hits in the 12-hit attack. Mauro hit his first career home run, a solo shot in the sixth inning, and Neiman drove in two runs in the win.

Senior Carson Slonaker tied the game at five with a single in the top of the seventh and pinch-runner, sophomore Derek Chrismer, scored the game-winning run on a passed ball two batters later.

In game two Pacillo dominated, scattering seven hits over seven innings while striking out seven and walking just one. Junior Kenny Ridge had two hits and scored twice as seven different Bulldogs had hits including sophomore Justin Scerbo with a triple and run scored.

The Bulldogs improve to 3-0 on their trip after a doubleheader sweep of Schreiner University and return to action Tuesday afternoon with another single game at Texas Lutheran University beginning at 3:00 pm locally on the East Coast.
