Another Strong Defensive Effort Leads DSU Past Manhattanville, 6-4

Purchase, NY (April 21, 2011) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team continued to play some stellar defense this season, holding Manhattanville College to just four goals, in a 6-4 road win over the Valiants in MAC Conference action on Thursday afternoon.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 3-10 overall and 3-6 in the MAC, while the Valiants fall to 3-11 overall and 1-8 in the MAC. DSU scored two goals in the second period to break a tie at one and led 6-3 after three quarters, holding on for the win in the fourth period. DeSales had a 30-26 edge in shots and won 9-of-13 face-offs.

Leading the scoring attack was freshman Evan Burns who had two goals and an assist in the win. Freshman Chalie Wilmer, sophomore Nicholas Freda, sophomore Josh Martin, and senior Phil Mander also scored goals in the win. Sophomore James Guerrier had two helpers and senior Donald Clemens added one assist in the win.

Junior Brendan Guerrier picked up a team-high 12 ground balls and had three caused turnovers, while also winning 9-of-12 face-offs in place of the injured Brennan Gmeiner. Clemens and senior Jon Devine also each had three ground balls. Senior Justin Campanelli continued his strong season with 11 more saves in between the pipes.

DSU gets the Easter weekend off and will return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Widener University for another MAC Conference contest beginning at 7:00 pm.
