St. David's, PA (April 29, 2011) – The DeSales University Baseball team had a terrific start to a busy weekend, hitting five home runs, and plating 17 runs in a 17-1 win over Eastern University in Freedom Conference action on Friday afternoon.
The win coupled with the loss by Misericordia on Friday puts the Bulldogs (17-14, 12-5 Freedom) in a tie for first place in the win column with the Cougars as both teams now have 12 Freedom Conference wins. Miseri stands at 12-4, while the Bulldogs are 12-5.
DSU scored in six of the first five innings to take control early and never looked back. In the first inning, junior
Jack Kavetski tripled with two outs and senior
Doc Neiman drove him in with a two-out single down the right-field line, while in the second inning both junior
Ethan Moser and sophomore
Brian Mauro hit two-run home runs, staking DeSales to a 5-0 lead.
In the third inning, Neiman singled to lead-off the inning and Moser hit his second homer of the game, a two-out, two-run shot to center field plating Neiman. After not scoring in the fourth, the Bulldogs added two more runs in the fifth on a two-run home run from junior

Derek Chrismer who doubled with one out.
In the sixth, DSU broke the game open with seven runs including a grand slam from Chrismer and RBI hits from sophomore
Chris Zucchi and senior
Carson Slonaker.
Lost in all the offense was a terrific pitching effort by sophomore
David Drinks who went eight innings allowing just six hits and one run, striking out seven without issuing a walk.
Kavetski finished with three hits and two runs scored, Neiman had two hits and two runs, Chrismer had two hits, scored twice and knocked in four runs, Hadinger also had two hits, scored three times, and knocked in two, Moser led the way with four hits, scored three times, and had four RBIs, and Zucchi rounded out the offensive leaders with two hits and two runs scored.
The Bulldogs will continue this three-game set with the Eagles on Saturday when they host Eastern games two and three at Butz Field beginning at 1:00 pm.
