Center Valley, PA (April 30, 2011) – One day after the DeSales University baseball team put on an offensive show it was the pitching staff's turn to shine as senior Jeffrey Pinto and sophomore Colby Pacillo each tossed complete-game shutouts helping the Bulldogs win two 3-0 games and finish off the three-game sweep of Eastern University on a gorgeous afternoon at Butz Field on Saturday.

The wins put DeSales (19-14, 14-5 Freedom) in excellent position to earn the #1 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs next weekend at Quakertown's Memorial Park, just needing one win over Misericordia University on Sunday afternoon in the final Freedom Conference games of the regular season. DSU has now won five straight entering the doubleheader tomorrow. The Bulldogs can fall no worse than the #2 seed next weekend.

The four playoff teams are set with the Bulldogs, Misericordia, FDU-Florham, and King's College all having qualified for the post-season next weekend. King's is locked in as the #4 seed with the other seedings to be determined following tomorrow's doubleheader and Misericordia's single game vs. Delaware Valley College on Monday.

In the opener on Saturday Pinto dazzled the Eagles, allowing just three hits over seven innings striking out three and not issuing a walk. It was Pinto's second win of the season as he lowered his ERA to 4.65 on the year. Eastern only saw three base-runners reach second back in the entire game.

DSU scored one run in the second, third, and fifth innings to provide all the offense Pinto would need. In the second, senior Doc Neiman and junior Jason Hadinger had back-to-back doubles to start off the inning, in the third Neiman drove in sophomore Justin Scerbo with a fielder's choice ground out, and in the fifth junior Kenny Ridge scored on an RBI groundout from sophomore Brian Mauro.

In the second game it was Pacillo's turn as he allowed just four hits and struck out improving his record to 5-3 on the year with a 3.60 ERA. He only allowed one runner to reach third base and one more to reach second in the win.

The Bulldogs again played small ball scoring once in the first, second, and fifth innings to provide all the offense Pacillo needed. In the first Scerbo tripled and Mauro drove him in with an RBI single, in the second sophomore Derek Chrismer and later scored on an RBI double from freshman Charles Dennis, and in the fifth Ridge walked and stole a base before scoring on a sacrifice fly from junior Jack Kavetski.

A reminder that tomorrow's doubleheader at Misericordia will not be played on Misericordia's campus by at Roosevelt Park in Swoyersville, PA. Directions are available on Misericordia's athletics web site.
