Early Lead Spoiled in 11-7 Loss at King’s

Junior Tony Fabrizio had a team-high four goals in the loss at King's on Saturday.

Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 9, 2011) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team started strong, opening up a 4-2 lead, but a goal with four seconds left in the first quarter switched the momentum and King's College controlled the final three quarters of play in a 11-7 win over the Bulldogs in MAC Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the MAC with the loss, while King's improves to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the MAC. Ground balls were even at 32 each, the Monarchs had a 29-26 advantage on shots, each team had 25 turnovers, and DSU won 12-of-22 face-offs.

Leading DeSales was junior Tony Fabrizio with four goals and an assist. Sophomore James Guerrier added a goal and two assists, junior Brendan Guerrier had a goal as did sophomore Jarrod Wiedow. Sophomore Nicholas Freda had two assists and sophomore Billy Marsh also had an assist in the loss.

Sophomore Brennan Gmeiner won 12-of-22 face-offs and picked up a team-high 10 ground balls, B. Guerrier added eight ground balls and had five caused turnovers, and senior Donald Clemens picked up five ground balls and had two caused turnovers. Senior Justin Campanelli made 10 saves in net.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Alvernia University for another MAC Conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
