First-Half Goal/Stingy Defense Help Bulldogs Earn Second Win of Season

BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (September 20, 2011) – Freshmen twins Alison Malatesta and Alyssa Malatesta combined to score the game's lone goal leading the DeSales University field hockey team past Marywood University, 1-0, in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.

A scoreless game entering the 22nd minute saw Alison fire a shot that was saved by the Pacer (1-5) keeper but Alyssa was there to grab the rebound and slid a pass over to Alison who had a clear path to the goal and fired a shot just right of the goalkeeper and by a Marywood defender into the cage for the game's lone goal.

That was all the offense DeSales needed as junior Victoria DelToro made the only save she needed too as a strong defense in front of her led by senior Meghan Sibiski and sophomore Sam Szathmary along with defensive midfielder Jen Burley closed the door on any other Marywood attacks.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Cedar Crest College for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
