Center Valley, PA (September 24, 2011) – The DeSales University women's soccer team let a 1-0 halftime lead and a chance to end a six-game losing skid slip away, falling to Alvernia University, 2-1, in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon on Homecoming.

The Bulldogs (1-7) took that 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when senior Haley Vollmer fired a thru ball to sophomore Brady Walsh from about midfield and Walsh dribbled a few times before beating the Crusader (5-4) keeper low to the right side for her fifth goal of the season.

That lead stood into the half and through the first 13 minutes of the second half before Alvernia countered with the tying marker at 58:44 when Amy Mesce scored off a feed from Sara Gimber.

The game went back-and-forth over the next 28 minutes before AU struck again this time with just 3:57 left on the clock as Gimber sent another crossing pass into the front of the goal and Kelsey Gill charged after it, just beating the DSU keeper to the ball but her first shot was saved, but caromed right back to Gill who pushed home the rebound giving the Crusaders a one-goal lead and ultimately the win.

Senior Melissa Millili made six saves for the Bulldogs in the loss.

DSU will look to end this losing skid on Tuesday when they host Albright College in another non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
