Wilkes-Barre, PA (January 28, 2012) – The DeSales University men's basketball team held King's College to 33.3 percent shooting and out-rebounded the Monarchs, 39-26, in a 58-44 win on the road to sweep the season series in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Scandlon Gymnasium.
Sophomore
Mike Coleman led the way with a game-high 13 points off the bench and added five rebounds and five assists. Junior
Brett Moyer totaled 10 points and six rebounds and senior
Tom Marshall had a career-high 10 points. Senior
Bob Zanneo and sophomore
Paul Pammer each finished with eight points.
Freshman
Keyton Winder and
Donovan Womack each had 10 points for the Monarchs (8-11, 3-5 Freedom) in the loss.
A tight game to start saw the Bulldogs (11-8, 4-4 Freedom) take control on consecutive three-pointers from Zanneo at the 10:04 mark of the first-half. Up four with 6:56 left to play in the opening half, DSU finished the half scoring six straight points, taking a 28-18 lead into the locker room as King's missed its last seven shots of the half.
DeSales cruised in the second half as its lead never fell below 10 points and was as high as 19 points five different times
The Bulldogs shot 46.2 percent from the field for the game. It is the seventh straight win for the Bulldogs over King's College, sweeping the season series for the third straight season.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they return home, hosting Delaware Valley College in another important Freedom Conference home game beginning at 8:00 pm.
