Bulldogs Inch Closer to Playoff Spot with 3-1 Win over Delaware Valley

Center Valley, PA (October 20, 2012) – Freshman Jamie Barna scored twice and sophomore Alyssa Borgesi broke the single-season record for assists with two more today leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past Delaware Valley College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.

The win moves DSU (7-8-1, 2-4 Freedom) within reach of a Freedom Conference playoff spot needing just a win next Saturday at home vs. FDU-Florham and a Misericordia win over Manhattanville College also next weekend.

DSU took a 1-0 lead over the Aggies (3-11, 1-5 Freedom) 14:51 into the game when Barna tallied her first goal off an assist from junior Ashley Koren.  Sophomore Megan Strauser made it 2-0 with her team-leading ninth goal of the year at 22:19 off Borgesi's first of two assists on the afternoon.

The Aggies got within a goal in the 64th minute when Marianne Morton scored off an assist from Chelsea Neves-Carr, but the Bulldogs got its insurance goal back in the 76th minute when Barna tallied her sixth of the season off another assist from Borgesi to provide the final tally.  The assist was Borgesi's eighth of the year breaking the previous record of seven held by Emily LaDuke and Amanda Fink.

Both senior Alex Bastinelli and freshman Taylor Cowan played one half in goal and each recorded three saves.

The Bulldogs will have an entire week to prepare for FDU-Florham as they don't return to action till Saturday, hosting the Devils at 1:00 pm.
