Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 23, 2012) – King's College came into today's game needing a win to clinch the top seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs and the DeSales University field hockey team nearly denied the Lady Monarchs the top seed in a hard fought 3-2 loss to King's in the Freedom Conference season finale.

The Bulldogs (3-14, 0-7 Freedom), despite the effort, drop its 12th straight game, while King's (12-6, 6-1 Freedom) does indeed clinch the top spot in the Freedom Conference playoffs next week.

After King's jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 4:06 into the game, the Bulldogs answered when freshman Meryah Harding scored her fifth goal of the season to knot the score at one.

The Lady Monarchs reclaimed the lead just 3:47 before the half on a penalty stroke as the two teams went into halftime.  DeSales enjoyed a 7-6 edge in shots in the first half, while King's had a 6-2 edge in penalty corners.

In the second half, junior Amanda Trickey scored her first goal of the season, tying the game at two just 1:36 into the second half and the game remained tied until the 59th minute when KC's Meghan Werimont scored off an assist from Calli Berryman to provide the final 3-2 margin.

Senior Victoria DelToro had two saves and freshman Becky Rasmuson saw 24+ minutes of action in goal and made four saves.  Overall, King's had a 14-12 advantage in shots and a 14-4 lead in penalty corners.

The Bulldogs finish up their 2012 season on Friday afternoon when they host Immaculata University in a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
