Late Run Propels Bulldogs in Morgan Stanley Tip-Off Tourney Title Game

Senior Colleen Gavin earned Most Valuable Player honors leading DeSales with 21 points in the 69-54 win over Haverford College on Saturday afternoon.

Center Valley, PA (November 17, 2012) – Senior Colleen Gavin scored 21 points earning Most Valuable Player honors and the DeSales University women's basketball team used a 22-8 run over the final 9:48 to earn a 69-54 win over Haverford College to take home the 2012 Morgan Stanley (Easton office) Tip-off Tournament Title on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.

Gavin was 9-for-11 from the field and also pulled down eight rebounds.  Junior Alexiah Grant also earned All-Tournament Team honors with 14 points and five rebounds on Saturday.  Junior Sondrine Glovas also reached double digits with 12 points and added five rebounds and four steals, while junior Julia Duffy had another strong game off the bench with eight points and senior Taylor Greene dished out seven assists in the win.

Haverford received 10 points from Dominique Meeks, Rachel Baskin, and Elizabeth Lynch in the loss as Lynch and Meeks each earned All-Tournament Team honors.

DSU had control for much of the first-half opening up as much as an eight-point lead (33-25) before settling for a five-point edge (33-28) at the break.  The Bulldogs shot 50.0 percent from the floor in the first half with Gavin and Grant combining for 22 of the 33 points.

Haverford cut into the margin early in the half, taking a 38-37 lead at 16:42 and trailed by just one after a three from Lynch (47-46) with 9:48 to go when the Bulldogs took control for good.  Five straight points from Duffy ignited a 13-4 run that gave DSU a 60-50 lead with 4:38 left and the Bulldogs scored the last eight points of the game to open the season 2-0.

DeSales finished the game shooting 48.9 percent from the field and forced 26 Ford turnovers, scoring 25 points off those turnovers.  DSU also got 30 points from its bench in the win.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday, November 20th when they travel to Moravian College to take on its local rival beginning at 6:00 pm.
