Reading, PA (November 26, 2012) – Junior
Kyle Hash and senior
Brett Moyer each totaled 18 points leading the DeSales University men's basketball team past PSU-Berks, 87-82, in non-conference action on Monday evening.
Moyer recorded his first double-double of the season and the 11th of his career with those 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Hash added 18 points off the bench and also pulled down seven rebounds. Junior
Paul Pammer had 14 points and sophomore
Michael Guldin rounded out the scoring leaders with 13 points.
The Nittany Lions (0-5) were led by
Evan Belczyk with 17 points,
Darren Major with 16 points,
Dameon Nixon with 14 points, and
Jeff Schmidt with 11 points and eight assists.
The Bulldogs led 23-20 at the 10:00 minute mark of the first-half before a 24-9 run over the next 8:30 gave DSU an 18-point lead before a Belczyk three provided the 15-point halftime margin. Moyer led the way for the Bulldogs with 12 points.
PSU-Berks scored the first seven points of the second-half to trim the margin down to eight points before DeSales quickly extended its lead back up to 14 points. The lead was still 14 points with 46 seconds left when PSU-Berks scored eight straight points to trim the deficit to just six points with 27 seconds left, but a dunk from Moyer on the other end and two free throws from Guldin with eight ticks left quickly spoiled any miracle comeback from the Nittany Lions.
DeSales dominated the glass, out-rebounding PSU-Berks, 44-26. DSU also torched the nets shooting 54.5 percent for the game and 83.3 percent (25-for-30) from the charity stripe.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they host FDU-Florham in the first Freedom Conference game of the season beginning at 8:00 pm. The game is also DSU's first on its home court this season.
