Second-Half Comeback Falls Short in 71-56 Loss to FDU-Florham

Center Valley, PA (November 28, 2012) – FDU-Florham won for the first time in Billera Hall since the 2006-07 season holding off a second-half rally from the Bulldogs en route to a 71-56 win in the Freedom Conference game of the season on Wednesday evening.

The Devils (3-1, 1-0 Freedom) forced 27 DeSales (2-2, 0-1 Freedom) turnovers and out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 42-32, leading to 18 second chance points keying the road victory.  FDU also shot 80 percent (24-for-30) from the free throw line, offsetting a poor shooting effort from the field, connecting on just 35.6 percent for the game.

Junior Megan Gallagher was a bright spot for the Bulldogs as she netted career-highs in points (16) and assists (5) in the loss, while also pulling down six rebounds.  Junior Sondrine Glovas had 14 points but fouled out late in the second-half and junior Alexiah Grant also reached double digits with 10 points.

Kyra Dayon had 23 points and nine boards to lead the Devils.  Rachel Groom finished with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds and Leigh-Ann Lively poured in 17 points as FDU received 68 of its 71 points from the starting lineup.

After a Glovas three 2:49 into the game gave DSU a 7-6 lead, FDU went on an 11-2 run to lead 17-9 at the 13:01 mark.  DeSales closed to within two, 20-18, on a three from junior Julia Duffy with 10:15 left to play before the the Devils slowly extended its lead to seven points, 33-26, at the break.

The Bulldogs shot well in the first-half (45.5 percent) but turned the ball over 20 times and allowed 12 offensive rebounds to the Devils leading to 11 second chance points in the half as compared to just two for DSU.

FDU dominated the start of the second half opening up a 14-point lead (44-30) 3:45 into the half before DeSales took control using a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to pull within two points (44-42) on a three-point play from Glovas.

Six quick points from the Devils pushed the lead back to eight and a 10-2 run made it a 13-point game with 7:30 remaining and the deficit never dropped below double digits the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs will look to rebound on Saturday when they travel to Wilkes University for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
