Second-Half Run Puts Away Immaculata for DSU’s Third Straight Win

Immaculata, PA (December 17, 2012) – A 24-6 run over the span of nine minutes turned a tie game into an 18-point Bulldog lead and the DeSales University women's basketball team never looked back as four players reached double digits in DSU's third straight win, 70-57, in non-conference action on Monday evening at Immaculata University's Alumnae Hall.

Senior Colleen Gavin continued to have the hot hand, scoring a game-high 18 points and added four steals in the win.  Junior Faith Gilbert was one point shy of tying her career-high with 14 points off the bench, junior Sondrine Glovas added 13 points, and junior Alexiah Grant had 10 points to lead the players in double digits.  Senior Taylor Greene also played well with 10 assists, giving her double digit helpers for the third time this season and sees her enter the Christmas holiday's averaging 7.0 assists per game.

DSU led for most of the first-half but never by more than five points as the Bulldogs clung to a four-point advantage at the break as Gavin, Grant, and Gilbert combined for 26 of the 33 points.  DeSales also took advantage of 18 first-half Mighty Mac (4-5) turnovers, scoring 15 points off the miscues.

IU tied the game at 34 at the 18:45 mark of the second half when the Bulldogs put the game away using a 24-6 run that was capped by a Gilbert jumper at the 10:06 mark to give DSU a 58-40 lead.  Glovas had nine of her 13 points during the spurt and Gavin added five.  Immaculata never got any closer than 13 points the rest of the way, including the final margin.

DSU torched the second-half nets, shooting 50.0 percent over the final 20 minutes to shoot 40.6 percent for the game.  The Bulldogs also forced 31 IU turnovers and scored 31 points off them, while committing just 15 of their own.

DeSales breaks for the holidays now and won't return to game action until Saturday, January 5th when they travel to Ursinus College for a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
