Bulldogs Roll Past Centenary to Take Red Robin Tournament Title

Center Valley, PA (December 30, 2012) – Senior Brett Moyer recorded his fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 27 points and 11 rebounds leading the DeSales University men's basketball team past Centenary College (NJ), 80-57, in the Red Robin Holiday Tournament championship game on Sunday afternoon in Billera Hall.

Moyer earns Most Valuable Player honors averaging 23.0 points in the two games.  Junior Paul Pammer and junior Mike Coleman also earned All-Tournament Team honors for the Bulldogs.  Pammer joined Moyer in double digits on Sunday with 19 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting afternoon and Coleman averaged 12.0 points in the two games, including 18 in the win on Saturday.

DSU (9-2) has now won eight straight since starting the season 1-2 and are excelling on the offensive end during its win streak averaging 84.1 points per game and out-scoring the opposition by an average of 19.1 points per game including a win over 12th ranked Catholic University, 76-66.

After opening up a 30+ point lead over the first 14 minutes yesterday, the Bulldogs methodically took control of the game on Sunday.  Leading 25-18 at the 5:51 mark, DSU out-scored the Cyclones (5-7) 19-8 over the final five minutes to take a 44-26 lead into the locker room.

Moyer was dominant in the first twenty minutes scoring 20 of his game-high 27 as the Bulldogs controlled the glass out-rebounding Centenary, 24-5, in the first half.

The second-half was all Bulldogs as the lead increased to as high as 28 points before the final buzzer sounded.

DeSales entered the game ranked 10th in the country in rebound margin and increased that margin on Sunday out-rebounding the Cyclones, 42-14, for the game.  DSU also shot 55.1 percent from the field and continued shooting the ball well from the charity stripe, hitting 21-of-25 (84.0 percent) in the win.

In addition to Moyer and Pammer, sophomore Michael Guldin played well with six more assists, sophomore Jake Hungarter added seven points off the bench, and freshman Cody Deal had a season-high nine points off the pine.

Senior Max Hughes totaled a team-high 13 points to earn All-Tournament Team honors for the Cylcones in the loss.

In the consolation game, Drew outlasted PSU-Abington, 81-74.  Mike Klinger had 16 points and was named to the All-Tournament team for the Rangers.  Drew also got double digit performances from Zach Nolan (18), Luke Glass (20), and John Ford (11).  Mike Marvin recorded a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds to earn All-Tournament Team honors for the Nittany Lions.

The Bulldogs are off till the New Year, returning to action on Thursday, January 3rd when they travel to Haverford College for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
