Center Valley, PA (December 5, 2012) – The DeSales University women's basketball team suffered thru another poor shooting performance, this time in the second half, as the Bulldogs shot just 26.5 percent in the second-half allowing Juniata College to pull away late in the half for a 73-60 win in non-conference action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.
Junior
Sondrine Glovas led the charge with 20 points and added eight rebounds and five steals and fellow junior
Alexiah Grant had 15 points on a 7-for-15 shooting night to lead the way. Freshman
Brittany Pierzga played well of the bench recording her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Senior
Taylor Greene added nine assists in the loss.
DeSales (3-4) had one of its best shooting halves all season in the first half, connecting on 41.2 percent of its attempts but still trailed by three (35-32) at the break.
In the second-half the Bulldogs continued to battle the Eagles (5-1) using a 7-2 run mid-way thru the half to pull within one point (48-47) with 10:48 left to play.
DSU went cold from there, missing its next four shots and committing five costly turnovers over a span of four minutes and Juniata capitalized using a 10-0 run to take an 11-point lead (58-47) with 7:30 remaining and the Bulldogs never got any closer than eight the rest of the way.
Turnovers was a bigger factor in the loss than the tough shooting second-half as the Bulldogs, who had done a good job of taking care of the ball vs. Muhlenberg on Monday recording more assists (14) than turnovers (13), committed a season-high tying 27 miscues in the loss on Wednesday.
Kate McDonald led Juniata stuffing the stat sheet with 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists, four steals, and two blocks.
Alix Sellers and
Natalie Hager each had 10 points off the bench to round out the scoring leaders.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday afternoon when they face former Freedom Conference rival the University of Scranton in a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
