Center Valley, PA (February 4, 2012) – The DeSales University women's basketball team did everything right on the defensive end, and complimented that on the offensive end, breaking the team record for three-point percentage in a game, shooting 75.0 percent (9-for-12) in a 68-42 win over Misericordia University in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.

The combination of junior Colleen Gavin and senior Cherelle Simmons did a masterful job on the reigning Freedom Conference Player of the Year, senior Christine Marks, holding Marks to just 11 points (nine below her season average) and 3-of-12 shooting from the field.

In addition, DeSales (12-9, 7-3 Freedom) forced the Cougars (11-9, 7-3 Freedom) into just 33.3 percent shooting after the Miseri entered the game as the best shooting team in the Freedom Conference at 44.0 percent for the season.  DSU also forced 19 Cougar turnovers and took terrific care of the ball on its offensive end, coughing up the rock just nine times.  Mu entered the game out-rebounding the opposition by an average of 4.6 boards per game, but the Bulldogs were up to the task there as well, owning a 41-37 edge on the glass despite a game-high 17 boards from Marks.

It was just DSU's defense though as the Bulldogs broke the team record for three-point shooting percentage in a game (previously set at 70.0 percent), by shooting 9-of-12 (75.0 percent) from outside the arc in the win.  Impressively, seven different players hit three's including two each from sophomore Sondrine Glovas and freshman Mikelyn Mackavage.

DeSales never trailed in the game, opening up a 9-2 lead on a three from senior Hannah Smith in the early going and leading by as many as 13 points before the 11-point (33-22) halftime lead.  The Bulldogs held the Cougars scoreless over the first 4:57 of the second-half and without a field goal for the first 6:40.

Misericordia never got any closer than 11 points (twice) in the second-half and DSU's lead peaked at 27 points before the 68-42 final was posted.

Glovas led the charge with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Gavin posted her fourth double-double of the season and the 13th of her career with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Simmons added six points, five rebounds, and three blocks, while Smith (5 assists) and junior Taylor Greene (7 assists) combined for 12 assists and just three turnovers at the point guard spot.

Marks finished with 11 points and 17 rebounds and Tyann McDaniel added 12 points to lead the Cougars.  Lauren Smicherko played well of the bench with six points.

The Bulldogs improve to 12-1 this season when they score 60+ points in a game and will return to action on Thursday (NOTE CHANGE OF DATE), February 9th when they travel to Manhattanville College for a Freedom Conference game with a time to be announced.
