Center Valley, PA (March 20, 2012) – Three early penalties led to three goals by Gwynedd-Mercy College as the Bulldogs fell behind 4-1 after one period and were never able to fully recover in an 11-5 loss to the Griffins in non-conference action on another gorgeous afternoon on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (2-3) committed just five penalties in the game, but three came in the first nine minutes of the game and GMC (4-3) scored on all three of the extra-man opportunities early to take a 4-1 lead after one.  DSU battled to get back into the game and had a golden opportunity mid-way thru the third period to get within three goals with a three-man man-up advantage for almost 90 seconds but were unable to score during the advantage and GMC fed off the momentum of killing off the penalties to earn the six-goal win.

GMC had a 31-25 advantage in shots, while the Bulldogs had a 29-27 edge in ground balls.  Gwynedd was 4-for-5 in extra-man opportunities, while DeSales was just 1-for-3 for the game.  Both teams won 10 face-offs.

Leading the Bulldogs attack were junior Jarrod Wiedow with two goals and one assist.  Junior Nicholas Freda, sophomore Chalie Wilmer, and junior Ben Krocheski each had a goal.  Junior Brennan Gmeiner and freshman Ryan Rowse added assists.

Gmeiner won 10-of-19 face-offs and had four ground balls, senior Brendan Guerrier picked up a team-high five ground balls and in the process became the third player in school history with 300+ ground balls in career.  Freshman Jake Ross finished with 12 saves in between the pipes.

DeSales returns to action on Saturday when they host Marymount University in another non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
