Doylestown, PA (March 23, 2012) – The DeSales University baseball team tied the record for runs in a game (26) and hits in a game (27) and broke the team record for RBIs in a game with 26 en route to a 26-7 win over Delaware Valley College in Freedom Conference action on Friday evening.
The Bulldogs could do no wrong at the plate. After a scoreless first and second inning the scoring began. DSU got on the board first with five runs in both the third and fourth innings to open up a 10-0 lead. Seniors
Ethan Moser and
Jason Hadinger had two RBI hits in each inning.
The Bulldogs added a solo run in the fifth to lead 11-0 before the Aggies looked to get back in the game with a five spot in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The DeSales offense didn't let up however, scoring once in the sixth and then breaking the game open in the seventh with eight runs. Moser had his third two-RBI double in the eight-run seventh inning and senior
Nick Chiovitti added a three-run double to cap off the scoring.
DSU put an exclamation point on the game in the top of the ninth inning scoring six times including a grand slam home run off the bat of sophomore
Mark Fuse to post the final 26-7 margin.
All nine starters had at least one hit. Senior
Kenny Ridge finished 5-for-7 with four runs scored and two RBIs and Chiovitti was 4-for-6 with five runs scored (tying the record for most individual runs in a game) and five RBIs.
Freshman
Nick Fischer entered the game in the fifth inning and went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Moser recorded a 4-for-6 line with three runs scored and six RBIs, Hadinger finished with two hits and five RBIs, sophomore
Charles Dennis was 5-for-7 with two runs scored, freshman
Drew Borger scored twice, and junior
Justin Scerbo scored three runs to round out the offensive leaders.
Junior
Colby Pacillo earned the win pitching five solid innings allowing just three earned runs and striking out six. Freshman
Eric Elmer earned the save pitching the final four innings allowing just two unearned runs.
These two teams wrap-up the three-game weekend series tomorrow at Butz Field in a Freedom Conference doubleheader. First pitch for game one has been moved up to 11:00 am.
