Bulldogs Open Season with 12-9 Win at Immaculata

Immaculata, PA (March 3, 2012) – Sophomore Evan Burns scored four goals and added two assists leading the DeSales University men's lacrosse team to a 12-9 win over Immaculata University in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon to open the 2012 season.

The Bulldogs (1-0) erased a 1-0 and 2-1 deficit early in the first quarter, scoring first in the second period to lead 3-2 and never trailed the rest of the way in the win.  Each team had 33 shots, DSU held a slim 32-30 advantage in ground balls, and the Bulldogs dominated the face-off circle winning 18-of-25 face-offs in the game.

Joining Burns in the scoring column were freshman Lance Bracale with three goals and one assist, freshman Ryan Rowse with two goals, and junior Josh Martin, freshman Andrew Cox, and freshman Nate Blevins with one goal each.  Juniors Billy Marsh (2 assists) and Jarrod Wiedow (one assist) also recorded points in the win.

Senior Brendan Guerrier led the defense with six caused turnovers and 10 ground balls, Bracale added six ground balls, and junior Brennan Gmeiner finished with five ground balls and winning 18-of-25 face-offs for DeSales.  Freshman Jake Ross was solid in goal, making 11 saves in between the pipes.

DSU now travels down to Florida where they will take on Wittenberg University and Clark University during its spring trip down south this week.
