San Antonio, TX (March 9, 2012) – The DeSales University baseball team got two home runs each from senior
Ethan Moser and junior
Brian Mauro in sweeping two games on Friday by identical 9-7 scores over Wabash College and Cardinal Stritch University to finish its seven-game spring break trip with three straight wins and a 4-3 overall record.
In the first game of the day, DSU fell behind early, but after a short rain delay, took control as Moser hit a solo home run on the second pitch after the rain delay and followed that with a two-run blast igniting a four-run third inning that put the Bulldogs (4-4) ahead 5-3 over Wabash. DeSales added four more runs in the fifth inning and held on late for the 9-7 win over Wabash.
Moser finished the first-game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, while senior
Kenny Ridge, sophomore
Charles Dennis, and sophomore
Mark Fuse each had two hits as seven different Bulldogs scored runs in the win.
Junior
Colby Pacillo earned the win with five innings pitched allowing just six hits and four earned runs. Senior
Jeffrey Pinto pitched very well in relief allowing just two hits over three innings, striking out one.
In the second game of the day, DSU scored twice in the first, four times in the third, and three more times in the sixth to lead 9-1 before Cardinal Stritch scored six times in the sixth as the game was called after seven innings due to rain with DeSales recording a 9-7 win.
Mauro was the offensive hero in the second game finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored, four RBIs, and two home runs. Ridge and junior
Derek Chrismer each had two hits with Ridge scoring twice, while Dennis and sophomore
Mark Westdyk each knocked in two runs. Moser and senior
Nick Chiovitti both scored twice.
Junior
David Drinks earned the win pitching five solid innings allowing just two earned runs and striking out five. Junior
Carlos Guerrero earned his first career save with a scoreless seventh inning.
The Bulldogs return home and return to action on Wednesday, March 14th when they host Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
