St. David's, PA (April 14, 2012) – Junior Brennan Gmeiner won 14-of-20 face-offs but Eastern University dominated at the scoring end, defeating the DeSales University men's lacrosse team, 14-4, in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

DSU (6-5, 0-1 Freedom) hung tough with Eastern (7-4, 1-0 Freedom) in nearly every statistical category but the Eagles took advantage of its opportunities on offense to record the 10-goal win.  EU led 5-0 after one quarter before DSU refused to quit, outscoring the Eagles, 2-1 in the second quarter.  Three goals to none for the Bulldogs in the third quarter was just too much to overcome however as Eastern led 9-2 entering the fourth quarter.

Gmeiner did another outstanding job in the face-off circle, dominating play winning 14-of-20 for the game and picking up six ground balls.  Freshman Nate Blevins had two goals and junior Jarrod Wiedow and freshman Andrew Cox scored DSU's other two markers.  Junior Josh Martin, sophomore Evan Burns, and freshman Lance Bracale each had assists in the loss.

Senior Brendan Guerrier picked up six more ground balls and now stands just 14 ground balls shy of breaking the all-time record at DeSales.  Freshman Jake Ross had eight saves in between the pipes.

The Bulldogs have a quick turnaround, returning to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Misericordia University for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
