Bulldogs Post Crooked Numbers in 19-10 Win over Rutgers-Camden

Center Valley, PA (April 16, 2012) – All nine starters scored a run and eight of nine starters recorded hits as the DeSales University baseball team scored 18 of its 19 runs in three innings en route to a 19-10 win over Rutgers-Camden in a non-league slugfest on Monday afternoon at Butz Field.

Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the second inning, the Bulldogs (21-10) sent 15 men to plate, scoring nine runs, with senior Ethan Moser providing the big blow, a three-run home run off the batting cage support in left-center field, as DSU took a 9-3 lead.

DeSales added four more runs in the third inning before the Scarlet Raptors (12-18) chipped away and eventually pulled to within, 13-9, entering the bottom of the seventh when the Bulldogs crossed home plate five more times to post the eventual final margin, 19-10.

Moser finished with three hits and five RBIs, freshman Nick Fischer was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBIs, freshman Drew Borger went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and senior Kenny Ridge finished 3-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Junior Justin Scerbo scored once and knocked in one run, senior Nick Chiovitti scored three times, juniors Brian Mauro and Derek Chrismer each had two hits and scored twice, and freshman Zach Stup was on-base all five times he came to the plate, scoring once.

Freshman Eric Dillard recorded his second win, battling thru five innings allowing six earned runs and striking out five.  Freshman Tyler Harris and junior Carlos Guerrero combined to retire nine of the last 10 hitters in the win.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow night in the annual “Under the Lights” game vs. local rival Moravian College at Limeport Stadium beginning at 7:00 pm.
