Men’s Lacrosse Wins Third Straight, 11-2 over Alvernia

Center Valley, PA (April 2, 2012) – Freshman Andrew Cox scored three goals and the DeSales University men's lacrosse team scored the first five goals of the game en route to its third straight win, 11-2, over Alvernia University on Monday afternoon.

A low scoring first half saw DSU (5-3 overall) score twice in the first quarter and once in the second quarter, taking a 2-0 lead into the half.  The Bulldogs scored the first two goals to open the third quarter before Alvernia (5-5 overall) got on the board, but DSU answered with the next six goals to lead 11-1 before the final margin was posted.

Alvernia held a 24-23 advantage in shots but the Bulldogs led the way in ground balls (41-30), face-offs won (13-3), and saves (8-6).

Cox led the scoring charge with three goals, while freshman Nate Blevins, junior Ben Krocheski, and freshman Lance Bracale each scored twice.  Freshman Ryan Rowse and sophomore Evan Burns also scored a goal in the win.

Senior Brendan Guerrier and junior Jarrod Wiedow each had two assists, junior Brennan Gmeiner, junior Josh Martin, and Rowse also had an assist.  Gmeiner was 13-for-16 in face-offs and picked up a team-high nine ground balls, Guerrier had seven ground balls, and freshman Jake Ross made eight saves for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Wesley College for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
