Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 21, 2012) – Senior Ethan Moser and junior Brian Mauro went a combined 9-for-13 with six runs scored and seven RBIs leading the DeSales University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Wilkes University by scores of 6-4 and 12-6 on Saturday afternoon to sweep the three-game weekend set between the two clubs in Freedom Conference action.

In the first game, DSU (25-11, 15-3 Freedom) scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a tie at four and freshman Tyler Harris blanked the Colonels (12-23, 3-15 Freedom) in the bottom of the inning to earn his second win this week.

DSU scored its first run in the seventh on a bases loaded walk and added the insurance tally with two outs on a base hit by junior Justin Scerbo.  The Bulldogs had led 3-0 after two and a half innings after a two-run homer from Moser in the third, but Wilkes tied it at four in the bottom of the fifth inning before DeSales rallied in the seventh.

Harris earned the win, pitching two innings allowing just two hits and striking out one.  Moser was 2-for-2 with two RBI's and Mauro finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs.  Scerbo also had two hits in game one and sophomore Mark Fuse knocked in a run.

In the second game, the Bulldogs broke open a close game with four runs in the fifth inning on RBI hits from Mauro, junior Derek Chrismer, and freshman Nick Fischer and after Wilkes pulled to within two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, DSU added five more tallies in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Senior Travis Hughes earned the win, his fifth this season, pitching 5.2 innings allowing just three earned runs and striking out 10.  Harris earned the save, his second of the year, pitching the final 1.2 innings allowing one unearned run in the seventh.

Mauro finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Moser was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, senior Kenny Ridge was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, Scerbo had two more hits and scored three times, and Fischer had two hits and three RBIs in game two.

The Bulldogs now find themselves tied for first place with Misericordia University in the Freedom Conference standings entering the final week of the regular season.  MU owns the tiebreaker having taken two of three in the head-to-head series.  The Cougars take on Eastern University and the Bulldogs face Manhattanville College in the final three-game set this upcoming weekend that will determine who the top two seeds are for the Freedom Conference playoffs.

DSU is scheduled to host The University of Scranton in a non-conference game on Monday, April 23rd beginning at 4:00 pm prior to the three-game set with Manhattanville next weekend.
