Center Valley, PA (April 25, 2012) – Senior
Brendan Guerrier picked up a game-high seven ground balls to break the all-time record at DeSales but the Bulldogs were officially eliminated from Freedom Conference playoff consideration with a 12-6 loss to Manhattanville College on Wednesday afternoon the final home game of the season.
DSU (6-8, 0-4 Freedom) looked sluggish from the very start falling behind 3-0 thru the first quarter and trailed 6-2 at the half. The Valiants (3-11, 1-3 Freedom) extended their lead to 10-3 after three periods before the Bulldogs out-scored MC by one in the fourth to provide the final tally.
Manhattanville out-shot DeSales, 36-29, while DSU had a slim, 29-27, advantage in ground balls. Junior
Brennan Gmeiner once again controlled face-offs winning 14-of-21 but 22 turnovers cost the Bulldogs in the loss.
Guerrier now has 362 ground balls in his career, four more than
Jon-Erik Stamatelos, who had the held the mark since the end of the 2007 season. He currently leads the team with 88 ground balls this season.
Six different players scored goals including freshmen
Lance Bracale,
Ryan Rowse,
Andrew Cox, and
Nate Blevins, as well as freshman goalkeeper
Jake Ross, with his first career goal. Junior
Ben Krocheski tallied one goal and one assist and juniors
Josh Martin and
Billy Marsh each had two assists in the loss. Ross made 12 saves in between the pipes.
The Bulldogs conclude their 2012 season on Saturday when they travel on the road to take on FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 2:00 pm.
