Brian Mauro went 3-for-4 with two home runs in game two leading the DeSales University baseball team to a split of a Freedom Conference doubleheader at Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon by scores of 2-0 and 9-6 as the Bulldogs take two of three in the series and finish the regular season in second place in the standings and as the #2 seed entering next weekend's Freedom Conference playoffs.
The Bulldogs finish the Freedom Conference regular season with a 27-12 overall record and a 17-4 mark in the Freedom Conference. DSU will be the #2 seed behind top seed Misericordia University in next week's Freedom Conference playoffs which will be held once again at Quakertown Memorial Park. FDU-Florham finishes as the #3 seed and will be DSU's opponent in the first game, while Manhattanville earns the #4 seed.
In the opener on Saturday, MVille's (15-19, 9-12 Freedom)
Michael Lyon pitched a three-hit shutout, blanking the Bulldogs for just the second time all season. DSU threatened in the top of the seventh inning, putting runners on second and third with two outs, but senior
Jason Hadinger lined out right to the left-fielder to end the game.
Junior
David Drinks was the hard luck loser, allowing just two hits, doubles in the first inning that led to the Valiant's two runs. He struck out four for the game and walked just one. Mauro, senior

Justin Scerbo had DSU's three hits.
In the second game, the Bulldogs trailed 4-0 entering the fourth inning but exploded for seven runs in the fourth to take a 7-4 lead. Mauro and senior

Kenny Ridge, and Chiovitti also knocked in runs during the inning.
Mauro added another solo homer in the fifth and Ridge scored on an error in the sixth to give DSU a 9-4 edge before the final 9-6 margin was posted.
Senior
Travis Hughes earned his team-leading sixth win of the year, pitching a complete-game allowing just seven hits and three earned runs, striking out one and not walking a batter. Mauro (three hits) and Hadinger (two hits) were the only Bulldogs with multiple hits in the 12-hit attack.
DSU does return to action prior to Friday's first round game in the Freedom Conference playoffs, hosting the University of Scranton on Tuesday beginning at 4:00 pm.
