Baseball Falls at Rutgers-Newark, 15-1

Newark, NJ (April 3, 2012) – An eight-run sixth inning by Rutgers-Newark gave the hosts a 14-0 lead and eventually a 15-1 win over the DeSales University baseball team in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Riverfront Stadium.

Newark (12-8) broke the game open in the sixth, out-hitting DeSales (14-8), 17-8, for the game and handing the Bulldogs their first loss in five games.

DSU got on the board in the top of the seventh inning when junior Justin Scerbo hit an RBI single from senior Nick Chiovitti.  Freshman Jonathan Bujtas suffered his first loss of the season, allowing four runs over 3.1 innings, striking out one.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when they get back to Freedom Conference action, traveling to King's College for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
