Reading, PA (September 22, 2012) – Senior
Alex Bastinelli made 10 saves and junior
Taylor Batcsics saved another off the line and scored DSU's lone goal in a 1-0 win over Alvernia University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Despite being out-shot 25-6 for the game, the Bulldogs were able to keep the Crusaders off the scoreboard, walking away with a 1-0 win to even its record at 4-4-1 this season.
Bactsics, who joined the team just four games ago, has made quite the impression having now scored two goals and helping preserve the shutout this afternoon with a save off the line in those four games, the last two of which she started. Her goal came with 14:30 left to play, a header off a corner kick feed from junior
Ariel Merkt, who earned the assist on the game-winner.
Bastinelli did the rest, making several spectacular saves, to continue her own personal scoreless streak, having not been scored on this season in 270 minutes in between the pipes. She now has 16 saves on the season and has been a part of three of DSU's four shutouts this season.
DSU will look to ride the momentum of this win on Tuesday when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
