Purchase, NY (January 23, 2013) – Junior Sondrine Glovas scored a team-high 21 points, including the 1,000th of her career, leading the DeSales University women's basketball team past Manhattanville College, 74-71, on the road in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening in a chilly Kennedy Center.

Glovas becomes the 19th player in women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in a career as she shot 10-for-18 in the game and added five steals in the win.  Senior Colleen Gavin added 19 points and now stands just eight points shy of joining Glovas and becoming the 20th player to score 1,000 career points.

The first-half was a back-and-forth affair featuring nine lead changes and four ties.  DSU opened the game scoring the first six points before the Valiants tied it with the next six.  After several lead changes throughout the rest of the half, a lay-up from junior Julia Duffy tied the contest for the fourth time at 36 as both teams headed to the locker room.

The fifth tie of the game came at 46-all with 14:28 to go in the game when the Bulldogs took control using a 13-0 run to take a 59-46 lead with 11:52 to go.  Gavin started the run, Duffy hit a big three during the spurt, and Glovas tallied the last six points.

The lead continued to be double digits over the next six minutes and was 10 with 3:17 remaining when the Valiants began a furious rally.  A three by Taylor Wilson and a put-back from Alyson Caiazzo quickly pushed the lead down to five.  Another three from Wilson, after a Bulldog miss, made it a two-point game with 1:17 to play.

Another miss from DSU gave the Valiants possession but a driving lay-up was off the mark for Bri Pabon, but MC would get one more chance to tie it with eight seconds left but a second driving lay-up from Pabon rolled around the rim and out as junior Alexiah Grant was fouled with five seconds left.

Grant made the first but missed the second.  DSU had a foul to give and did so as the clock ticked down to 2.7 seconds and a last second three from just over halfcourt was off the front of the rim with the Bulldogs escaping Manhattanville with the win.

Junior Megan Gallagher also reached double digits with 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go along with five steals.  Senior Taylor Greene had six points and seven assists.  The Bulldogs shot 46.9 percent from the field and forced 26 Valiant turnovers.

DSU returns to action and to its home court on Saturday when they host King's College in another Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
