Bulldogs Clamp Down on Ursinus for Fourth Straight Win

Collegeville, PA (January 5, 2013) – Junior Sondrine Glovas scored a game-high 23 points and the DeSales University women's basketball team held Ursinus College to just 40 points as the Bulldogs earned their fourth straight win, 60-40, over the Bears on Saturday afternoon at Helfferich Hall.

Glovas shot 9-for-13 from the field and tied her season-high with 23 tallies.  Junior Megan Gallagher added seven points and six rebounds and senior Colleen Gavin grabbed a game-high 10 boards in the win.  Ten different players scored in the game.

DSU (7-4) trailed by one (14-13) 10 minutes into the game when the Bulldogs used a 12-0 run to take an 11-point lead (25-14) with 4:20 remaining in the first half.  Glovas led the way with four points during the spurt and sophomore Mikelynn Mackavage hit a three to highlight the run.

Leading by nine at the half, the Bears (6-5) scored the first bucket of the second half but Glovas answered with five straight points to put DeSales up 12 and the Bulldogs maintained a double digit lead the rest of the game en route to the 20-point win.

The Bulldogs shot 45.2 percent in the second-half and 40 percent for the game.  DSU out-rebounded Ursinus, 41-30, and forced the Bears into 27 turnovers, while committing just 15 of its own.

The Bears were led by Alyssa Polimeni with a team-high 10 points and Tori Steinberg with eight points off the bench.

The Bulldogs return to action on Monday when they host Gwynedd-Mercy College for a non-conference game beginning at 6:00 pm.
