Bulldogs Torch Nets in 84-64 Win over Stevens Tech

Senior Alexiah Grant led the Bulldogs with a game-high 29 points on Saturday vs. Stevens Tech.
Box Score
Center Valley, PA (November 16, 2013) – Senior Alexiah Grant connected on 12-of-21 from the field for a game-high 29 points to earn MVP honors as the DeSales University women's basketball team hit 12 three's and shot 49.1 percent from the field in an 84-64 win over Stevens Institute of Technology in the championship game of the Morgan Stanley (Easton office) Tip-off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs torched the nylon for their best shooting performance since canning 48.9 percent vs. Haverford College in last year's Morgan Stanley tip-off title game.  The 12 threes are just one shy of tying the team record of 13 set vs. Delaware Valley College in January of 2009.

Grant missed her first three shots before connecting on 12 of her next 18 to tally the game-high 29.  Seniors Sondrine Glovas (11 points, four assists) and Megan Gallagher (13 points, three steals) also earned All-Tournament Team honors for the Bulldogs and junior Mikelyn Mackavage was outstanding off the bench with 11 points.

Dylan Krause and Avis Benjamin each scored 13 points in a losing effort for the Ducks.

Despite the final score this game did not start DeSales' way as Stevens Tech took a 7-0 lead and led 12-3 with 4:34 gone by in the game.  Six straight points from Grant including a four-point play cut the margin down to three points and a three from Mackavage at the 9:18 mark made it a six point Bulldog lead (21-15).

The Ducks fought back and re-took the lead (32-31) with 4:52 to play but a 14-6 run to end the half gave the hosts a 45-38 edge into the locker room.  Four different Bulldogs scored during the end of half spurt including freshman Megan Baird who came in off the bench and tallied five quick points to end the half.

The second-half was all DeSales as they quickly extended its lead to 18 points early on consecutive triples from Grant and Mackavage and the lead swelled to as many as 27 points once.

DSU was 12-for-29 from outside the arc with six different players making a three.  Sophomore Gabby Scott led the squad with a team-high six assists as DeSales turned the ball over just 11 times as compared to 18 assists and forced 25 Duck turnovers on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs have now won 12-straight games at home but will return to action on the road when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 20th.
