Wilkes-Barre, PA (November 6, 2013) – Wilkes University scored three goals in a span of 6:37 early in the first-half and exploded for six goals in a 6-2 win over the DeSales University field hockey team in the semifinals of the Freedom Conference playoffs on Wednesday afternoon.

The loss ends the Bulldogs season with an 8-10 overall record, DSU's most wins in a season since the 2009 season.  Wilkes moves on to the Freedom Conference championship game to take on #4 Misericordia University, a 3-2 win over top seeded Delaware Valley College also on Wednesday.

Wilkes controlled play early on creating several scoring chances before finally taking a 1-0 lead at 10:24 on a goal from Ashley Hahn.  The lead became two at 16:08 on a marker from Aliya Frankel and the Colonels took a three-goal lead just 52 seconds later when Emily Saliba scored unassisted.

Sophomore Jesse Marshall got DSU on the board at 26:51 knocking home a nice centering pass from junior Alison Malatesta.  The Bulldogs showed some life cutting the deficit down to two goals but Wilkes made it a three-goal game just 1:51 before the half when Devon Kriebel scored.

WU added another tally 8:40 into the second-half to make it a 5-1 game before sophomore Meryah Harding scored on another assist from Malatesta and the Colonels provided the final 6-2 tally with a goal at 52:03.
