Center Valley, PA (December 7, 2013) – The DeSales University men's basketball team shot 56.0 percent from three-point land, hitting 14 treys, including 12 in the first-half alone, en route to a 75-71 win over Wilkes University in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Billera Hall.

Seven different players hit three-pointers in the win.  Seniors Paul Pammer and Kyle Hash each had 16 points to lead the way and freshman Brian Laird was outstanding off the bench with 14 points, including a 4-for-4 effort from outside the arc.

The Colonels (4-3, 1-1 Freedom) had four players in double digits including Pat Furst with 16 points, Nic Wilkins with 14 points, Cameron Hinkel with 13 points, and Alex Wizar with 12 points in the loss.  WU also shot well hitting 52.8 percent for the game.

The game was back-and-forth over the first nine minutes, tied at 13 at the 11:12 mark when the Bulldogs caught fire.  Senior Cory Schmidt started a string of eight straight three-pointers, including the first seven that were part of a 21-6 run over a span of four minutes giving DSU a 34-19 lead.  Five different players hit treys during the spurt, including Laird with three.

DSU hit three more over the final seven minutes of the first-half and after a tip-in from Furst late in the half, the Bulldogs carried a 45-34 lead into the locker room.  DeSales was 12-for-19 from outside the arc in the first-half.

The Colonels rallied in the second-half cutting an early 15-point lead down to two points with a quick 13-0 run.  The two teams traded baskets over the next two minutes before DSU countered the Wilkes run with a 10-0 spurt of its own to regain a 12-point lead (65-53) with 8:41 to go.  Sophomore Ryan Furst had four points and Laird another triple during the run.

Wilkes refused to go away however and slowly trimmed the lead down to four points (67-63) with 3:12 remaining.  Hash countered with a clutch three at the end of the shot clock to give DSU a seven-point cushion and it was a five-point game with 1:39 to go before a turnover gave WU possession back down five with 1:08 to play.

Wilkins made two free throws and the Bulldogs called timeout with possession, up three, and 31 ticks left.  Out of the timeout, sophomore Cody Deal saw his inbounds pass intercepted but a three from Tyler Jackson was off the back iron and Schmidt was there to grab the important rebound.

Schmidt was fouled and hit 1-of-2 freebies making it a four-point game and after Wilkes raced down the court for a lay-up with 3.9 left, Hash sealed the win with two free throws with 1.5 left.

The Bulldogs got 28 points from its bench including nine from Furst and five from Schmidt to go along with Laird's 14.  Schmidt also had five assists and Furst pulled down a team-high five rebounds.  Senior Andrew Kohler finished with nine points.

The Bulldogs are right back in action on Monday when they travel to #12 St. Mary's College (MD) for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
